The center is expected to grow to accommodate approximately 200 students, filling a critical need for engineers for corporations such as Duke Energy, where 60 percent of its\u00a0engineering workforce will be eligible for retirement in the next five years.<br \/>\nPresident Clements joined Anita, Jonathan and Laura Zucker for the ceremony that was attended by more than 75 Charleston County School District\u00a0middle school STEM students. As Clements spoke to the students through a bullhorn while standing next to the excavator, he said, [pullquote]\u201cHere we have the Hunley submarine in the Warren Lasch Conservation Center \u2014 that focuses on our past. Over there we have the SCE&amp;G\u00a0Energy\u00a0Innovation Center \u2014 that deals with the present. And today we break ground on the Zucker Family Graduate Education Center, and that\u2019s all about the future.\u201d[\/pullquote]<br \/>\nUpon completion, the Zucker Family Graduate Education Center will serve as the academic anchor in the CURI applied technology park. In addition to students and faculty, office\u00a0space\u00a0in the center\u00a0will be leased to industry looking to engage with faculty, students and researchers.<br \/>\nLong-time Clemson supporters, Anita Zucker and Jonathan Zucker helped\u00a0fund the center that will bear their family\u2019s name. Anita Zucker explained why she wanted to help make this center possible. \u201cI\u2019m passionate about STEM. I\u2019m passionate about education. And I\u2019m passionate about our region and what\u2019s happening here,\u201d she said. \u201cFor years our business community has\u00a0complained that we don\u2019t have enough graduate-level courses in engineering.
