\n\"Biergarten\"<\/a>\u201cBavarian inspired, Southern made” is their catchphrase. Making sure you\u00a0eat at their restaurant in Charleston is their game. Clemson is their shared love. Ryan Workman,\u00a0Emily Barber Workman and Greg Pierdon are all Clemson grads, but it was a game of kickball\u00a0and acquaintances in Charleston five years ago that brought them together post graduation.
\nAlong with business\u00a0partner Laura Patrick, the\u00a0three took a conversation\u00a0about what was missing in\u00a0their home of Charleston\u00a0into a reality that is Bay\u00a0Street Biergarten<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cWe saw something\u00a0different,\u201d said Ryan.\u00a0It took the group meeting\u00a0every week for a year to chase\u00a0their dream.
\nYou won\u2019t find kitsch at\u00a0Bay Street Biergarten though.\u00a0No lederhosen for sure, but\u00a0pretzels and schnitzel are\u00a0abundant. But you\u2019ll also find\u00a0gator and shrimp and grits on\u00a0the menu. The 7,400-squarefoot\u00a0facility is the renovated\u00a0Wilmington Railroad Depot,\u00a0offering large exposed beams\u00a0and original brick, as well as\u00a0family-style seating for large\u00a0groups waiting to take in the\u00a0latest Tigertown brawl.
\n\u201cWe wanted patrons to\u00a0have a traditional German\u00a0biergarten experience,\u201d said\u00a0Ryan. \u201cWe wanted it to feel\u00a0like a beer hall, but then have\u00a0the tech side of it. We use iPads to put in orders directly from the table. We have taps at the table, and you\u00a0can use a card to pay by the ounce.\u201d
\nThe three said their love of Clemson and the Clemson network only strengthened their ties to each other\u00a0and the community as they pushed toward their goals over the past four years. \u201cSolid Orange continues to\u00a0show support,\u201d said Greg. \u201cIt feels pretty good to know you have the support. They seek you out. And it\u2019s a\u00a0good conversation starter.\u201d
\nLessons learned at Clemson, from Greg\u2019s accounting degree to Ryan and Emily\u2019s work in\u00a0communications and management also come into play every day to keep the business running. Emily said\u00a0her psychology major is constantly at work as she manages staff and expectations for different personalities.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a people business, and you have to be willing to get yourself out there,\u201d said Emily about\u00a0management. The three said their team meetings and team spirit, much like they learned through the Greek\u00a0system while at Clemson, keep them in check when days get long.
\n\u201cWe have to drive each other. Complacency is death in this industry,\u201d said Greg. \u201cIt\u2019s a cutthroat\u00a0business \u2026 and we\u2019re driving it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
