There are student computer workstations against the east wall, which is punctuated with windows. Swirling around the windows is a series of sculptures of animals and plant material. There\u2019s an acorn that\u2019s close in size to the nearby rabbit, and a fly that\u2019s not much smaller than the fox. A variety of leaves, a frog, a dolphin, a snail, a bear \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/clemson.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/beetle.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-17166\" src=\"https:\/\/clemson.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/beetle-80x80.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"80\" height=\"80\" srcset=\"https:\/\/clemsonworld.wpenginepowered.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/04\/beetle-80x80.jpg 80w, https:\/\/clemsonworld.wpenginepowered.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/04\/beetle-36x36.jpg 36w, https:\/\/clemsonworld.wpenginepowered.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/04\/beetle-180x180.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 80px) 100vw, 80px\" \/><\/a>somewhere around 75 different species are represented on the wall, no one significantly larger than the other.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Installed in 1999, this series of sculptures by Charleston-based artist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annconnelly.com\/artist-artworks\/?at=JoeWalters&amp;cat=-1&amp;scat=-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Walters i<\/a>s titled \u201cSpiral Mesh.\u201d The intentional scale discrepancies are meant to reinforce the interdependency of species within ecosy<a href=\"https:\/\/clemson.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/crab.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-17167\" src=\"https:\/\/clemson.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/crab-80x80.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"80\" height=\"80\" srcset=\"https:\/\/clemsonworld.wpenginepowered.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/04\/crab-80x80.jpg 80w, https:\/\/clemsonworld.wpenginepowered.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/04\/crab-36x36.jpg 36w, https:\/\/clemsonworld.wpenginepowered.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/04\/crab-180x180.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 80px) 100vw, 80px\" \/><\/a>stems. \u201cLarge mammals are given no more physical prominence than insects or other small creatures,\u201d Walters said in his artist\u2019s statement. \u201cThe surface treatment of the individual mixed media figures implies they are corroded iron. This creates a Pompeii-like archaeological context for the work and may metaphorically reference the fragility and fleetingness of life, which includes not only individual organisms, <a href=\"https:\/\/clemson.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/shark-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-17170 \" src=\"https:\/\/clemson.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/shark-3-80x80.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"82\" height=\"82\" srcset=\"https:\/\/clemsonworld.wpenginepowered.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/04\/shark-3-80x80.jpg 80w, https:\/\/clemsonworld.wpenginepowered.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/04\/shark-3-36x36.jpg 36w, https:\/\/clemsonworld.wpenginepowered.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/04\/shark-3-180x180.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 82px) 100vw, 82px\" \/><\/a>but ecological systems as a whole.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cSpiral Mesh\u201d is just one of 11 art installations on campus. The most recent, \u201cIlluminated Chroma Wind Trees,\u201d is being installed this spring in Core Campus and is a part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/centers-institutes\/watt\/creative-inquiry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atelier InSite <\/a>project.
