Her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian was realized after graduating in 2005. She and her husband, Gary, and their daughter, Ava Kate, live on the island where she is an assistant professor of parasitology at RUSVM.<br \/>\nIn addition to teaching, Pereira has created a fundraising program, oneLOVEPets, for animals in need.
