Clemson astrophysicist Marco Ajello was part of the Fermi Large Area Telescope Collaboration that used new methods to measure all the extragalactic background light emitted from our universe in its 13.7 billion-year history. The number of photons (particles of visible light) that escaped into space after being emitted by stars translates to 4×10^84.
