Before becoming one of the most accomplished doubles tennis players of all time, Gigi Fernandez was a freshman All-American at Clemson during the 1982–1983 season. It was a sign of things to come for Fernandez, who went on to a legendary professional career that saw her capture 17 Grand Slam championships and two Olympic gold medals before being inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2010. Also a Clemson Athletic Hall of Famer, Fernandez is still the only two-time gold medalist in University history.
