Armed with Rick Steves’ Travel Guide, we set off on a 14-day adventure, staying in hostels and B&Bs, while exploring my father’s ancestral home. Highlight was actually finding relatives I knew not at the 19th Century family home in Co. Clare. Photo is from atop Blarney Castle just after kissing The Stone to ensure my Irish eloquence as I age.
Kip Jordan (class of 1996) and his wife Joy traveled across the country from Loris, South Carolina to Colorado Springs, Colorado with Reclaim ministries. They, along with 18 others, served in rescue missions along the way and performed a music program with the group. They had the opportunity to sing “America the Beautiful” here at the top of Pike’s Peak while sporting their Clemson colors! The lyrics of “America the Beautiful” were written by Katharine Lee Bates because the view from Pike’s Peak was so breathtakingly beautiful.
In March of 2017, fellow alum Zack Geiger and I took a 3-day quad tour through the Sahara Desert near Merzouga, Morocco. Joining us were his girlfriend and some other friends from the States. We were able to ride camels out into the desert and sleep at a nomadic campsite in the dunes. The two of us posed for this picture with the Tiger Rag during our trek to the overnight campsite. It was an exhilarating trip, made all the more exciting by angry spitting camels and our guide quitting on day two after a dispute with the driver. It truly was the trip of a lifetime.
Hannah Whelpley and Jeb Hines (juniors, class of 2019) in Wildlife & Fisheries Biology) studied wildlife conservation management and techniques for wildlife research in the Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem conservation areas of Tanzania through The School of Field Studies at the Moyo Hill Camp in Rhotia, Tanzania. They are pictured at the Ngorongoro Crater.
