Phil ’83, Ann ’87, Gracie ’19 and Wilson ’13 Scott found a Clemson-colored beach hut among many others on Brighton Beach in Melbourne. “I had a presentation I was giving in Melbourne, Australia, at the Sigma Theta Tau International Research Congress (Nursing Honor Society),” Ann says. “We turned it into a family vacation.”

Graham Abbott ’56 and his son Graham happened to run across Larry Grimes, emeritus professor of applied economics and statistics, in Olympic National Park. Alaska: Mike Barnhart ’72 and his wife, Alexa, visited the Arctic Circle. Australia: Charlotte Cobb ’91 and her husband, Stephen, celebrate the National Championship win in Sydney: “We were in Santa Clara for the National Championship game and flew out to Sydney the next day.” California: Virginia Dillard ’18 on the slopes surrounding Lake Tahoe, which sits on the border of California and Nevada. Canada: Becca Driggers Doswell ’90 braves the cold at Niagara Falls in Ontario. Colorado: Brent ’08 and Sarah Stone ’10, M ’12 Gregorich, their son, Connor, Tommy Stone ’78, Liz Stone ’12, Judy Stone and Catherine Carmignani enjoying the Colorado Rocky Mountains on vacation. Scotland: Erica Harper ’13, M ’16 and Lucas Harper ’17 with Lucas’ parents, Eric and Lyn Harper, in Leven, Fife, a seaside town in Scotland. Wyoming: Bryan J. Milam, director of student financial aid, celebrated her 30th year working at the University in Dec. 2018. Utah: Elizabeth Lander Purcell ’76 and Roger ’75 and Wanda Watson ’76 Heffelfinger hiking in Zion National Park. Ecuador: Alex McBryde, Shawn Williamson, Rebecca Williamson '12, Katelyn Ausborn, Amy Blackwell, Aidan Smith and Mark Smith hiked 15,953 feet to the Jose F. Rivas refuge at the Cotopaxi volcano in Ecuador during a mission trip. Israel: Kay Lindsay Sporrer ’82 on the shores of the Sea of Galilee in Tiberias. “This sea is mentioned many times in the Bible, but probably the most well-known is when Jesus and Peter walked on water.” France: Kevin Prufer ’79 at the finish line of the L’Alpe D’Huez stage of the 2018 Tour de France. Croatia: Ashley Page ’10 vacationing in Dubrovnik. Italy: Michal Clark Miller ’82 and Emily Perrotta ’18 visited the famous Trevi Fountain in Rome. Argentina: Will ’84, Sandra ’83 and Collins ’15 Mauldin visiting Iguazu Falls. Collins served in the Peace Corps in neighboring Paraguay from 2016-18. Utah: Tom M ’91, Nancy ’81, Pearson ’18 and Laura ’18 Mann at Corona Arch, a sandstone arch near the Colorado River, during a family trip. California: Harry Childs ’89, right, and Oscar Outen rep the Tigers in San Francisco during a trip to see the National Championship. Arizona: Madison Cain ’18, Gabrielle MacDonald ’18 and Laura Mann ’18 enjoy Antelope Canyon, a slot canyon in Arizona, as part of their graduation trip. California: (15) Kristen ’11 and Atticus ’11 Mabry ascended up the Mountaineer Route of Mount Whitney to a height of 14,505 feet. “The Mountaineer Route takes three days from the Whitney Portal but affords amazing views of the night sky and glacier lakes. Following the descent, we traveled through (the other) Death Valley at -282 feet.” Germany: Robin Lynn Kirk ’78 and her husband, Bob, took a trip through Bavaria and snapped a shot with her Tiger Rag in Dinkelsbühl, Bayern, “a medieval Imperial City with marvelous history and architecture and fabulous people!” Connecticut: Drew Hyde ’84 and his son, Greg, toured ESPN headquarters in Bristol. “In the National Championship hallway is a display of all the D-1 football teams’ logos. You can press any of the logos and it will activate the playing of that school’s fight song. Yes, we heard ‘Tiger Rag’!” Germany: Jim Hayes ’68 and his wife, Sheron, along with Emory Washington ’54 and his wife, Betty Lou, at the Mercedes-Benz assembly plant in Rastatt. The couples were on a Rhine river cruise, which took them from Amsterdam to Basel, Switzerland. Scotland: Jerry and Linda Flanders, Angela Phillips ’83, Meghan ’14 and Joe ’13 Scott, Ashley ’10 and Colin ’11 Cyr, and Mitch and Sheila ’87 Cox at the Wallace Monument, erected for the Scottish hero William Wallace, in Stirling. British Virgin Islands: (33) Shannon Christopher ’91 and Christopher ’91 Chase, Jill Christopher Wolf ’89 and her husband, Michael, Cece Stark ’93 and Lance ’93 Burnett, and Carissa Pace Ivey ’98 and her husband, Michael, chartered the 42-foot catamaran known as the Sea Tiger to sail the British Virgin Islands. “We met people from all over the world who stopped to ask us about the giant Tiger Paw sail … or just to say, ‘Thank you for beating Alabama!’” said Shannon. “Best trip ever.” Australia: Keith Hendrix ’98 made friends with the kangaroos of Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary near Brisbane. Puerto Rico: Father and son, Christopher ’90 and James ’20 Dickey, near Patillas during an UMCOR mission trip for hurricane repair in the area. South Korea: Gina Gennaro ’16 traveled to Seoul to visit her friend who teaches English there. “During the week, while [my friend] was at work, I solo traveled around the city to visit all the palaces and temples and shrines. [Gyeongbokgung] Palace was the biggest and my favorite.” Syria: Hayes McDowell ’14, a first lieutenant serving as base commander in Syria during a 10-month tour under Operation Inherent Resolve, showed off his love for Clemson before the Military Appreciation Game against Duke in 2018. Denmark: Mark McKinney ’95 in Aarhus at dusk, there for a LEGO company meeting. Hungary: Left to right, Pat Pankopp, Ken Pankopp ’74, Sue Reichert Rysinski ’75, John Rysinski ’75, Bill Cooper ’70 and Sarah Cooper ended their fall cruise through Central Europe in Budapest and took a photo overlooking the Danube River. Nepal: Victor Quintero ’14, right, hiked to Mount Everest Base Camp, which sits at 17,600 feet, with his guide, Jamling, in October 2018. Arizona: Tommy Ryan ’91 and his two sons, Alex Ryan ’14 (pictured) and Austin Ryan, traveled to the Havasupai campground in the Grand Canyon. Havasupai is one of the most remote Native-American reservations in the U.S., which Tommy describes as “a beautiful campground in the midst of running streams and spectacular waterfalls.” South Africa: Stephanie J. Shipley ’93 surrounded by the wild beauty of Kruger National Park. Colorado: Lisa Walker ’03 and her husband, Todd, and children, Avery and Warren, took a family trip to Beaver Creek for some skiing. Uganda: Bill Anderson ’68 aboard the African Queen on the White Nile River in Murchison Falls National Game Park during a mission trip to northern Uganda in Oct. 2018. Honduras: Dawn Berndt M ’16 explores the amazing reefs off the coast of Roatán with her family — on underwater BOSS scooters. England: Tom Bethea ’70 and his wife, Dorothy, visiting Tower Bridge in London.
